Coach Hooper Age Group Coach of the Year
Coach George Hooper, a longtime coach and former competitor with the Albany Starfish Swim Club, has been named “Age Group Coach of the Year” by the American Swimming Coaches Association.

The American Swimming Coaches Association is a professional service organization dedicated strengthening and improving the coaching profession and building a stronger swimming community. Coach Hooper was recently named 2008 Age Group Coach of the Year for the Adirondack District, which covers north, northeastern and part of central New York State.

Coach Hooper, who competed with the Starfish in the late 1960s, has extensive coaching experience. He served as an assistant coach with the United States Military Academy at West Point and head coach of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute women’s swim team.  He has also worked with several swim clubs, both as an assistant and head coach.

With the Starfish, Coach Hooper concentrates on the “bronze” group, which generally consists of younger competitors who are developing a sound foundation and technical expertise that will enable them to enjoy a long and successful swimming experience.
