HEAD COACH: Tom Steuer, a Connecticut native came to the Starfish as head coach in 2002. Previously he was an assistant coach on the University of Delaware's Men's and Women's teams and site coordinator for Team Delaware's USS club at the University of Delaware site. At the club level, Coach Steuer has coached several junior and senior national qualifiers and a 2000 Olympic trials finalist. He is currently registered as a level 4 coach with the American Swim Coaches Association. He has built the Starfish program into the largest club in Adirondack swimming and led them to the 2007 Long Course District Championship. He resides in Colonie with his wife Linda, daughter Mira and son Daniel.
Mike Stone coaches the Silver squad at Niskayuna.
Greg Brown coaches the Silver squad at Siena College. In addition, he is the Head Coach of the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team at Siena College, and the Assistant Women’s Water Polo Coach. Prior to this, Greg was the Head Coach of the YMCA Dynamo in Burlington, Vermont, where he produced 6 YMCA All-Americans, including 1 YMCA National Champion, and 1 USA Swimming All-American. While in Burlington, he also served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Vermont for 2 years and led Quarry Hill to a Vermont State Championship in 2006. Greg is originally from Mechanicsburg, PA and graduated from Lycoming College in Williamsport , PA in 2002 with a BA in History. He swam and played water polo all four years at Lycoming. Upon graduation he held four school records in Swimming as well as the team single season and career wins total for a goalie in Water Polo. He was captain of the both teams his senior year.
Kim Rixman coaches the Bronze squad at Niskayuna. She participated as an age group swimmer for 10 years, varsity for 5, and college for 2. While earning her B.A. in English/Education at SUNY Potsdam, Kim was captain of her college team (specializing in distance freestyle), and coached the Northern Pikes Swim Club. After graduation, Kim spent two years coaching with the Schenectady Swim Club while finishing the MAT program at Union College. She has been teaching English for the past four years at Shaker High School, where she was the Girl's Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach for two years, and is currently the Head Boy's Varsity Swimming and Diving Coach.
Chuck Dunham coaches the Platinum squad. In 2007, he returned to the Albany Starfish , where he previously coached Gold/Senior from 2000-2004. While attending Springfield College where he is finishing up his masters degree in physical education, he served as Head Coach for the Amherst Tritons, a USS Club team that won their first ever Western Mass Championship in 2006 under Dunham’s guidance. In addition, he served as Assistant Coach for the UMASS Men’s and Women’s team where the men were Atlantic 10 Champions. Currently, Chuck is the Head Coach for the Shenendehowa High School Boys Varsity Swimming and Diving Team, where he previously served as an assistant coach for back-to-back sectional titles. Chuck has also coaches the Knolls Summer Swim Club. As a swimmer for Shenendehowa, Chuck was captain for the school’s first ever Adirondack and Suburban Council championships. Chuck also swam for The College of Saint Rose, where he was a multiple record-holder and 5x athlete of the week.
George Hooper coaches the Bronze squad at Siena. He brings a 30-year relationship with competitive swimming to the Starfish. A competitor with the Starfish Club in the late 60's, Coach Hooper has served as an assistant coach with the United States Military Academy and head coach of the R.P.I. Women's swim team. At the club level, he has worked with several clubs during his tenure as both an assistant and head coach. His educational background includes a B.A. in psychology, and M.S. degrees in Physical Education and Community Mental Health Counseling. Coach Hooper is employed by the N.Y.S. Department of Corrections as a Senior Correction Counselor. He resides in Clifton Park with his wife Charlotte and team members Aimee and Nicholas.
Meghan Mahoney coaches the Silver squad at Siena. Meghan was an age group swimmer with the Albany Starfish and has served as a substitute coach for the various Starfish squads. After four successful years of Division II swimming at LeMoyne College, where she earned a degree in History and Secondary Education, Meghan spent a year with AmeriCorps in Rhode Island. She is currently a Global Studies teacher at Shenendehowa HS West.
Kate Tyrrell coaches the Developmental squad. She began her swimming career as a Starfish swimmer, and continued at the collegiate level at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. While at Carleton, she also competed in water polo and helped establish the women's squad while earning a Bachelor of Arts in History. Kate joined the Starfish as a swim instructor while in high school, and continued as an instructor in college. She has also coached the Beverly Sharks in Beverly, MA. Kate is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Information Science Degree with plans to work as a School Library Media Specialist.
Katie Jones coaches the Siena Silver squad with Coach Meghan. Katie started her swimming career through the YMCA swim program. Swimming became more important when she reached her high school years. She started lifeguarding and teaching swimming at age 14. Katie attended Alfred State College where she was a distance swimmer. In her first year of competitive swimming, she received the most improved swimming award. After teaching, lifeguarding and as a aquatics director at a boy scout camp, Katie knew swimming would always be apart of her life. She also works as a Mechanical Designer in Watervliet.
David Washburn coaches the Gold squad. He started swimming competitively at the age of five and was an age group swimmer with the Starfish. In high school, he competed for the Guilderville (Guilderland/Voorheesville combined) high school swim team, where he placed in the top 8 every year and was the sectional champion two years in a row in the 50 freestyle. Dave swam for St. Bonaventure University while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. While in college, he swam different events, mostly specializing in sprints for butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle. After college, he spent a few years as an Assistant Coach for Glen McKenna with the Helderberg Aquatics Club. Dave then returned to the Starfish, where he coached the Niskayuna Bronze and Silver squads. He lives in Colonie with his wife, Tina.
